This goes out to the 70 SS Chevelle convertible owners. I just got an SS gauge dash for my 70 SS convertible and I'm trying to figure out where to make the hole for the convertible top switch. Can someone give me an idea as to where this hole should be made?? -thx

Check page UPC 12, Sheet B15 in your Factory Assembly Manual

Are you cloaning an SS? As far as I understand it, the mount for this is the same as for the Defrost in a hardtop car.

Yep, another clone hits the road. My goal is to eliminate some of the gauges strapped around my steering column. Thanks Fred and Jason for the info.

Brazil, I installed mine "centered between the cigarette lighter and the radio tuning control knob"

I can't remember where I got the information or if it is correct for sure.

Fred, I can only find the Malibu dash in my assembly manual which dosen't seem to have a "UPC" section
(still searching)

Look in lower right corner of Assembly Manual pages. You'll see two boxes with "12" in the upper and "B15" in the lower. My manual also has hand written page numbers in the center of the bottom. Look for page 395. This page applys to both Malibu and SS, according to the note above the 5.60 dimension.

Thanks Fred,
Yep, I guess that's where I got the info.
(the "page 395" did the trick)

I'm back again.. I see the page in the factory manual that Fred speaks about. It positions the power top/defroster switch between the radio and cigarette lighter. I also see another section (I don't have the book with me to be specific) which indicates a defroster switch to the left of the radio. I tend to think it *is* suppose to be between the radio and cig lighter but I thought I would ask once again.... Is there an original SS convertible owner out there who can tell me if the power top switch is to the left or right of the radio. Sorry for the bandwidth. This dash is perfect and I'm freaking about putting a hole in it. I wanna make sure it's right - thx

Hey Brazil -

My 70 Convertible is not an SS, but it was factory-ordered with gauges (verified with build sheet and window sticker), so it has the SS-style round gauge dash. Anyway, my power top switch is between the lighter and the radio. I didn't get a chance to get some accurate measurements, but the distance from center to center between the hole for the lighter and the the switch hole is approx. 2.5". My switch appears to sit slightly higher (1/8" or so) than the lighter. E-mail me if you need more details. Good luck!

Thanks Ranier, Fred and everyone else who replied. Between the cig lighter and radio it goes! I was getting some conflicting info so I just wanted to make sure.
