: 1972 Chvelle Malibu Clock
Roger Cook Mar 5th, 03, 7:14 PM Anyone out there know the difference between part numbers 993869 and 994107? These clock kits with pictures are on eBay now and appear to be exactly the same although the boxes clearly show different part numbers. If anyone can tell the difference or which is correct for my car I would really appreciate it.

jtjohnston Mar 5th, 03, 7:36 PM Roger,
Let me know. Does anyone here know if it is the same clock for a 1971 4-door?
Mine has not worked for at least 15 years smile.gif
Those two I saw on EBay seemed to look the same.
Go find Ron Cook again. He is very helpful and has the correct parts catalogue.
(Remember the scan he left you on your mirror?)
Roger Cook Mar 5th, 03, 8:42 PM Already tried him. Believe it or not, the numbers are not in the book! Go figure. Why does everything have to be so difficult?

jtjohnston Mar 5th, 03, 11:10 PM Already tried him. Believe it or not, the numbers are not in the book! Go figure. Why does everything have to be so difficult?I've googled both part numbers:

994107 Clock

Nothing!?
As well, I have searched (you have to be a member):
http://www.chevelles.com/members.search.html
Except for your post, there is no mention of the words "994107" & "993869"
I've also been for a ride at:
http://www.gm-restorationparts.com/
Nothing.

Roger Cook Mar 6th, 03, 7:28 AM ...and check this clock out. They even give a clock number in that kit. But, it doesn't match either of Ron's!!! What a goose chase.

994107 with 3990813 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6745&item=2406157387&rd=1)
jtjohnston Mar 6th, 03, 2:11 PM You also need to be careful. Ok, this one had no photo. But, SS cars & Monte Carlos had a different dash inset. I have the standard Malibu dash, so either of these appear to fit.
I've already had mine in my hands to know.

Not to split hairs, but does it really matter which one is correct, if either is identical to my original?
Roger Cook Mar 6th, 03, 8:00 PM I found it interesting that someone gave the part number for the clock as well as the kit number. You are right there is no picture. I was going by the kit number and comparing the actual clock number to those stated earlier. I personally would not care which clock I got as long as it is the correct appearance, fit and it worked. I realize alot of the original clocks are not that great for keeping time and most people I know are converting them to quartz.

Shawn Mar 9th, 03, 8:42 PM 994107 Clock is for 1971-72, white lettering
993869 Clock is 1970, look at the lettering, it's green.
Roger Cook Mar 9th, 03, 8:49 PM Shawn,
That makes sense. Although from the pictures they both look white to me. Why do these numbers not appear in a GM Master Parts Catalog?
Roger
Shawn Mar 10th, 03, 4:24 PM I bought a NOS '70 Malibu clock like that before and still have the box. I'll let you know the part number just to confirm which is which. Not sure why they're not in a catalog.
Fester Mar 13th, 03, 4:52 PM What is entailed in converting the clocks to quartz. I hadn't heard of this before, I use my watch in the malibu for now.
Roger Cook Mar 13th, 03, 8:27 PM If you check out Original Parts Group (or possibly any other Chevelle parts suppliers like NPD, Ausley's, etc. ) they have quartz conversion kits for Borg Warner clocks. They are kind of expensive, but are way more accurate. Also, if you check out Hemmings Motor News, there are guys in the service section that repair/convert clocks.
Hope this helps,
Roger
Fester Mar 14th, 03, 12:08 PM Thanks,
I'll check em out

Green is a flourescent that shines bright when your park lights are on.
No one else bid on the clock so I did:

I'll let you know how it fits in a month or so when I get the car out. I'm anxious the get mine out - and maybe get a local jeweler to have a go at it to see if it is not something silly yhat can be cleaned or fixed.
If it doesn't work out, I'll sell it.
Roger Cook Mar 14th, 03, 10:23 PM Shawn is correct!
Green lettering is for 70 and white is for 71-72.
