: Fuel Tank Leak >> POR-15 Epoxy Putty?

Hello,,

I have a '67 El Camino that has a fuel leak that is leaking out of the metal insert that the fuel line hose attaches to. I know I can't braze this because of the fumes, so I though about trying POR-15 Epoxy Putty. Will this stuff work good if I clean and dry and sand this part of the fuel tank? Will gas not penetrate though it? If this POR stuff won't work then what will?

Thanks in advance,

Try some JB Weld. It works good on tanks as long as the surface metal cleaned real good with a wire brush. I haven't had much experience with POR product. If you plain on brazing your fuel tank consult a professional.

Sorry read you post again are you talking about where the send unit that goes into the tank? A large 1 1/2" dia ring? There is an O-ring between the tank and the outlet feed/level indicator. Is that where it is leaking from?

I am talking about a little fitting that appears to be welded in the middle of the 1 1/2 inch thingy. I don't really know what I am talking about as you can see.....I have never messed with fuel tanks before but am sick of getting 5MPG........hehe

It is the fitting that that fuel line that goes up to the fuel pump connects to if that helps you any more. At first I though it was coming out of that but then I realized that it was loose and leaking from the tank,,,

First of all, don't drive it and don't be trying to cut that exhaust pipe out with a torch or anything that causes sparks. If it's the fuel line fitting going to the fuel pump, that item is part of the sending unit, I believe. Just replace the sending unit and o-ring. There are also some fittings that connect directly to the tank. These are part of the vapor recovery system. It the leak is at one of these fittings, drop the tank and have it professionally repaired. Some radiator shops will do this for you.

My uncle put POR putty on an air compressor that was leaking. He's had it to 120 pounds pressure since he plugged the hole and no problems. Definitely clean it first or you're wasting your time.

Better to use a brass bristle brush, a wire brush can make sparks.
