What color should the hood hinges be in a 64 chevelle? late July build date , Missori.
Any help is greatly appreciated!

The hinges received a dark gray phosphate plating that gave the metal a dark, dark gray color. Sometimes they look black, depends on the composition of the plating batch on a given day. They were plated as a unit, so you should expect to see bare metal in some spots where one piece overlapped another.

There is no paint that really duplicates the look exactly, but someone does make a "fake" phosphate-looking paint. Check in the Eastwood catalog, if anyone has it they will.

Other choices to get you in the neighborhood would be your standard cast iron paint (go for as dark a color version as you can find) or just paint them semi-gloss black like the rest of the underhood metal on a Chevy (GM Reconditioning Paint). Unless you are going for 100% restored look, I doubt 1 person in 1000 would notice the difference.

What I did was try to match the color as best as I could by mixing Eastwood Detail Gray with Eastwood Semi Gloss Black. It took a little trial & error but they look great & its been 3 1/2 years. Just my 2 cents.
