Does a 72 Chevelle have front seat belts that a wire connects to, as part of the seat belt warning system? Did all 72's have this or is this an option? I have a buzzer and light in my dash with a wire that comes out under my seat from the main wiring harness that goes back to the trunk. If I ground this wire, the light and buzzer go off if I'm in drive.

That wire is supposed to plug into the front seat belt receptacle. The wire will be grounded unless the belt is fastened, the passanger wire loops through a sensor under the pass seat and will only go off if someone is sitting there. The wire also loops through the neutral saftey switch and only is on in drive. That said, the system is a pain and is only worth fixing if the car is a concours show car. My 73 had the same system and I gutted it out. The 74 and up also had a starter interlock so you had to buckle up before starting

'73Malibu' gave a good answer. I might add that a concours-correct buzzer should make a shrill, rude buzz that makes everyone's stomach tighten.
