So, when putting in an HEI distributor you should add a new 12 or larger guage wire, right? Do I remember someone saying that you should take the wire from the fuse box? Do I need to connect it to a spot that is always hot or one that is only hot when the key is turned? Thanks

Switched power from the fuse box is correct.

As long as it gets full voltage (don't use the resistance wire)you'll be okay. If you don't want to cut the harness you can use the resistance wire to operate a small relay to give it power from a non-switched source like the horn relay. mgg (Gold # 209)
