I have a '68 Malibu rusting in the driveway right now. She has her original 327 4 barrel and powerglide. My dad paid for a budget rebiuld to put her back on the road over ten years ago when I turned 16. Now she hasn't moved since I was married 5 years ago. I have a couple of questions. First, when the time and money are back in my favor will the engine need another rebiuld since it has sat so long? I plan on replaceing the caskets anyway. Second, I have A factory tac and gauges out of an SS, will the factory tach work with an electronic ignition such as an HEI or an MSD?
The car would still be a work in progress except for :house payment, little girl and another coming, and the fact that I don't have a garage. I used to keep her fired up but I went out to crank her about three years ago and she turned over good but no fire. Now I just walk by her everyday and dream of criusing in her again. Any help or words or words of encouragement would be appreciated. Thank You.

Replace the Caskets?!?! Good God man, what sort of thing you go going on down there in TN? http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

Seriously, you shouldn't need to rebuild it after 5 years, although this could change depending on just how 'budget' the first rebuild was. I'd suggest that you take it to a garage you trust, and have them check it out.

The Tach will work with the electronic ignition. If you do a search on that, you'll find some older messages about the same topic. I think it was covered not to long ago. search on 68, tach, MSD, etc...

Good luck, with the car and new adition to the family.

Kurt

I can relate Mike, I have a 68 with a 327 that I have had for almost 10 years now! I am in the Air Force, so it has survived a couple of moves with me. But, I am proud to say she is still a member of the family after 3 kids and a divorce! http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif I am in Mississippi, so maybe we can stay in touch about the cars. Mine is an original 327 car. It has a TH350 tranny in it now too. It also has full guages (including factory tach), buckets and a console. It needs quarters, fender patches, the piece below the rear window, and at least the drivers floor board. I just cant give up though. The car is a part of me. I think everyone that reads this will know what I mean. Anyway, enough of my rambling. Good luck with your car man. Email me if you are interested in staying in touch. Take care.
