Hey guys, I'm still working on fixing my front end suspension from the wreck. I've taken off the brake caliper brackets and the brake backing plates, and pressured washed them. The black finish was removed leaving behind the old rusted original finish. I want them black again; should I paint them with something like Rustoleum or should I use this POR-15 stuff I've heard so much about??? Thanks
72Elky,
I have had good luck using POR-15 on suspension stuff as well as my trunk. You can get flat, semi or gloss. Flat I think would be good. Maybe 2 coats of brushed on POR-15 only. Since your not in sunlight, no need to top coat. But they only cmoe in 1 qt now. I think for $35.00.
Use gloves, thow away foam brushes, and make sure any loose material is removed.
Oh, a tip I got from my POR dealer, use saran wrap to cover the opening in the can you pop the lid back on. Keeps the lid from becomeing sealed.

I just did my entire front suspnsion on my 72 also. if your'e looking for the original factory look, you can paint over the por-15.
I sandblasted my backing plates and caliper brackets. por-15 sticks well to sandblasted metal. The caliper brackets should be gold cadmium color and the backing plates should be silver cad. I used Eastwood's Gold cad sytem and their silver cad paint. anything that was supposed to be black, I used por-15 chassis coat black, which is made to go over regular por-15 and is not uv sensitive.
it all looks great and looks factory.
good luck!
