Did any of the supersports in 67 have a dash clock.Ive seen alot of cars at shows and on the internet that are 138 ss cars but have a dash clock.Mine is a 138 car with a dash clock as well ..just wondering thx.. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Mike - To the best of my knowledge - 67 ss cars could come with the dash clock, but if they had a floor console the clock was in the console. There are dashes that have a clock delete, and others that have the full guage package with no clock. Yours has a clock in the dash so it must be a column shifter or was originally.

The answer to your question is Yes. If the special instruments package (gages) were used the clock went on the floor or console. Otherwise it was in the dash.

A dash clock just means there was no console. For an automatic, the clock would have to be in a console to be floor mounted so column shifted cars would have the dash clock (if the clock was ordered/equipped), but a manual-trans car could either be a bench seat or bucket/no console and still have the dash clock.

Without the in-dash guages that is...

In 67, the clock was standard equipment for the SS, Malibu,and Concours. It was extra in the Chevelle 300 and 300 Delux. Oil pressure, temp and generator warning lights, not gages, were also standard on all models. The center console was only available (RPO D55)in the SS and Malibu (4 speed, powerglide or turob hydra-matic trans) when the bucket seat option was selected (RPO A51)
In console equiped SS and Malibus the clock moved from the dash to the console, regardless of instruments. When optional gages (RPO U14) were used the clock moved to the floor, regardless of shifter location. It is possible to have a bench seat SS with a column shift turbo hydra-matic, with optional gages and have the clock floor mounted.
Bottom line you will find clocks in the dash, in a console or on the floor in 138 cars.

If you have a bench seat, column shift SS, where do they put the clock if its not in the dash, and there is no console for it?

The floor clock without console has its own housing and a bracket that mounts to the trans hump. Just like in Al's pic. Sometimes you'll find floor clocks on E-bay. The bracket is rather simple to make if one can't be found.

As (another) Dale said, Malibu, SS, and Concours got the (dash) clock standard. Extra cost option on 300 and 300 Deluxe.

I have a few pics of 67 dashes (mostly bench seat w/column shift) but the clock kind is of hard to see. Here is one that's fairly clear (http://www.bull-enterprises.com/dalesplace/image9_dash.jpg). Also note the dash strip - wood grain instead of the black plastic. Other photos of this car show the VIN as a 138xx SS car and no mention of the dash strip ever being changed. I've seen 4 or 5 other documented SS cars with the wood grain dash strip as well. My 67 had the wood grain strip when I bought it in '86. Also had 8-track player and such so I would doubt the dash had ever been apart. Just one more odd-ball thing I've noticed on '67s the past couple of years.

Console equipped cars got the clock moved to the console regardless of gauge package being ordered or not. If no gauge package ordered (RPO U14) the space in the dash was filled with a blank plate.

As you can see from the pics, a gauge equipped car without console got the floor mounted clock which, by the way, is a fairly rare find and they tended to get in the way at dating time. :D

A non-gauge car with bench seats and column shift got the clock in the right pod.
