Was cleaning my distributer last night and noticed a code A 08. Would that be a date code similiar to the casting date codes on the engine parts? Also if it is a date code would it be Jan 8?

You're correct on both counts. They are date coded and that should be your breakdown.

The distributor date code should have a number before the month letter, like 9K5 or 0A8. Usually on all the distributors I have seen the zero is omitted for the first 9 days of the month.
