: thinking more clearly
gotapileof70Malibu Jun 29th, 99, 7:23 AM I didn't choose my wording very well in the last post. I love to perfectly restored cars and I love modified cars; I love Chevelles! What I meant was that a minute minority of the people on this site believe that everyone's car should be built the same way (how boring) and they don't hesitate to tell everyone. The way I see it, everyone's advice is greatly appreciated, but I don't take orders very well. I agree that someone shouldn't buy an all original car and stick a blower through the hood and add flares to the fenders, but maybe some cars should be built this way (except for those flares). Pat Kelley's (hope I spelled your name right) friend has my dream car, except for the 6cyl, but I "settled" for a 70 convertible with the original 307. While I like the ride and sound of this engine, you can better believe that, when I get the money, something bigger is going in. In closing, thanks to everyone from everyone for past help and for the help that will most certainly be needed in the futere. Just think how it would be though if we all build our cars like yours or, worse yet, like mine are currently as they sit around the yard.

Gene Chas Jun 29th, 99, 7:53 AM Hey Mike, like I replied in your last post ( I think I was last ), I just love cars. I hate to see any type of hack work done on old classic cars, but whether its modified or original, I don't care. I think we here at Team Chevelle should promote high quality, professional advice, be it the "correct" whatsamajig, or how to get 500 HP from a 396, or any of the "rookie gearhead" questions yours truly asks. Like I said previously, hack work on classic cars gives all our rides a bad image, so as long as it's good quality workmanship rage on my man!
BTW, I think EVERYBODY should be building a big block 4 speed car! That's where it all began.

Randy Mosier Jun 29th, 99, 11:40 PM Its all a matter of taste. The folks who do original restorations on Model A Fords or 32 Vickys or 40 Chevrolets hate to see someone turn one of these cars into a street rod. I just hate to see a classic butchered and left for dead. I don't even like to see a 64-72 Chevelle or Nova or Camaro have their have their interiors removed for wheel tubs anymore.
I think Gene said it best. I dont want too see everyone build their cars the same way. But all I am promoting is good quality work, not just a hack job. Take for instanse my new project. 62 Impala Sport Coupe 283 with a power glide. It is being converted to power brakes, power steering,4 speed on the floor. And I just located a 409 block and heads that I wiil build to put in it. So If the original parts are long gone I see nothing wrong with doing with it what you want. I just hate too see hack jobs. Mike I don't know which post you are refering to but I sure can't remember reading one from anyone on this site who believes that "everyone's car should be built the same way"
Maybe you just misunderstood what someone was trying to say and he/she was like me and not very good at putting the words together to get their meaning across.

Ayway I wouldn't let it bother me if I were you. We all know there is always at least one or two people out of a couple of thousand of any group that will get under your skin if you let them.

72CHEVELLE Jul 2nd, 99, 8:01 AM Forget about it. You said it best by saying "I love Chevelles!!" That sums it up for everyone on this site. If a few people want to build their cars exactly alike, let 'em. I agree it seems rather boring. Its cool that you vented your frustration though, cause we got to discuss matters like this. I hope it didn't discourage you any!
Gene,
I'd love to drop a 454 w/ 4spd in my 71 and 72, but some of us don't have the $$$$$$!! I'm with you on that point, though.
