I've got the heat/AC box out of my 65 right now. I'm considering tearing out the old and falling apart pad and insulation. I'd also like to clean up and paint the area. How much of the stuff (clutch, brake, parking brake, steering, electrical) on the driver's side must be disassembled in order to replace the firewall pad? Thanks -- Carl

You dont have to remove much more than you already have - you can slit the insulation to go around the more permanent components. You'll love the results.

I just replaced my firewall pad, too. I had my whole dash and underdash stuff out. I would remove as much as possible since it will make it easier to replace and it will be more complete. You definately should take apart the accel. pedal plate so that it fits snugly behind there.
