ok, I know your not supposed to do this but I have a problem getting fuel to the mechanical pump. By the tank I disconnected the pump line and sucked on it lightly and yes I got the great taste of gas in my mouth. So that means the pickup in the tank is good right, next thought the fuel pump push rods were different checked with summit and the local autozone push rods the same. I know the pumps are different and I have a new pump my friend game me and never used for a big block, I checked the pump off the car and it works fine. I know how trickey the pumps are to put on with the fuel pump push rods and I have taken it off and on 4 times to try to get this thing to work. the only thing I do not have connected is the vapor return line for the charcoal canister under the hood it is connected up to the tank, I was told not to block this off it had to be left open. Anyone have any ideas why I cant get fuel to the pump? BTW the cam is not flat this is a bran new motor with about 30 minutes on it. Had to use elec pump to get the motor broken in. This is really starting to p##s me off.
thanks,
steve

this thing kinda happened to me only my car would start, but it would die once it hit 60mph...scary when it died 15+ times on the freeway. What happened was there was a whole bunch of junk in the fuel line. we took the line off right near the tank & there was a bunch of crud in there. Whatever it was, it hasn't surged yet. Has died though, but that's cause of the crappy Q-Jet.

Pull the fuel line off at the tank and then pull the line off of the feed at the pump.Shoot some compressed air thru it and it would probably be a good idea to wrap a rag on it before you slam the air to it.If there`s any crap in there, it`ll come out!!Good luck!

stevenb8, Are you sure it is a big block pump? There was a similiar thread here in the last month and the pump was incorrect. Looks like the same symptoms, recheck with a known BB pump.
