I just picked up a new emergency brake handle from Super Cheverolet for my 70. It is black and shaped differently than my orginal. My original handle looks gray and the portion where the treads are, is quite a bit longer than the repro I just bought. When I questioned the color I was told that my old one used to be black. Does this sound right? Those who have original handles what color is yours?

Sounds faded to me. I have only ever seen black.

The originals are black and shaped differently than the repos. What you are seeing on the original is a grey chaulk like oxidation. This can be removed (to a degree) with a fine polish. Unless it is a concours car, replace it with the repo.
