I need help on determining the correct power steering pump for a 69SS 396/325 with A/C.

My current pump has the one hose in the back and the other coming out the bottom of the pump.

I ordered one and they sent one that has both hose attachments coming out of the back of the pump. They believe this one is the correct pump for a 69 SS with A/C.

Anyone know which one is correct?

Usherjm, Fill neck is oval shaped, pressure hose is out the left side of back, return hose left side of can.

I also have a 69 El Camino SS/396,325hp

The one you have is the correct one. Pressure hose out the back and return line out the bottom pointing roughly toward the center of the block. From what I can tell, Chevy used two different pumps that year changing to a two bracket set up with both the pressure and return lines out the back. That one is a simpler set up. If you want to keep the one that came with the car, you can buy a new O ring and take the outside canister off the pump and put it on a rebuilt one. There was some one on the tech discussion recently and he used his old reservoir with the new pump. Also, as previously mentioned, your pump reservoir ( the outside of the pump assy) should have a tower type reservoir not triangle shaped like all the remanufactured ones. If you have any other questions, e-mail me. Good Luck. Phil

I just did that with my '70. They had sent me a pump w/reserv. that didn't fit. The return line hit the exhaust manifold. I returned the setup and ordered just the pump. Really wasn't difficult, but you have to take your time and not screw up the old reservoir. Make sure you clean up the inside of the old reservoir especially where the o-ring seats. I used brake-cleen, but MAKE sure you dry it out completely. The new pump came with a pre-oiled o-ring, so I just left it alone. If yours does not, use a little p/s fluid on it so that it seats nicely in the reservoir.
Good Luck!

Where did you guys purchase the pump from? I will be doing manual to power steering conversion, and I can use all the help I get.
Thanks

I got my from a local reputable parts company. The took back the first one with no problems, even though it technically had been installed. A good NAPA store would also be a good starting point. Most likely they will have to order it in, and probably won't take more than a day or so.
