This has been discussed before but I don't believe a definitive answer was given. I am getting ready to reinstall the bench seat in a restoration that has to be concourse correct. The carpeting was cut differently around the mounts on a bench seat car and the seat was not simply bolted over the carpet. Does anyone have a photo of an original carpet under a bench seat with approximate measurements on these cuts? I know, I know.....yes I am anal! http://www.chevelles.com/forum/rolleyes.gif

I don't think it is any different than a bucket seat car, you just do the outer cuts. Cut a "flap" in the carpet that covers up the foot of the seat track and bolts. I'm sure that is the way it was on Malibu's and Monte's that I worked on in the 70's (factory originals)

My '68 bench seat car had the cuts only on the outer edges. I've gone to buckets, so no pics. Under the seat, however, there was about an 8 inch gap between the rear edge of the front carpet and the front edge of the rear carpet. Not visible from the sides, but could be seen from underneath. I do have a pic of that but can't scan, snail mail only if you need it and you have the time.

Dave, I have untill June http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif, after that I am in big trouble. A picture would be great. E-mail me for my address.
I too thought there was a gap in the carpet and remember seeing that. I recently looked at a survivor (sort of) low mileage LS-6 with a bench seat and was so intent on looking for a build sheet that I forgot all about the carpet question I had asked.

I just pulled out my bench and carpet in perparation for a bucket conversion. This is original carpet out of a 72. I noticed that the carpet does not extend all way under the seat (there is a gap but it's well out of sight).
I'll see if I can get some pictures this weekend and send to you. The pics will be of the carpet out of the car but should show the cuts and might be helpful.

Bob, thanks for your help. Anything you can provide would help. Normally I wouldn't worry about such a trivial thing but I have no choice on this car. I too have seen that large gap on many cars.
