When I got my 67 Malibu the glovebox was not functional- it didnt have a lock on it. It was opened by turning what looks to be a 10mm allen hole to release the door. I bought a lock for it, and it fits, but I have spent a few frustrating hours trying to figure out how to get it to work. Anybody have any hints or maybe a diagram of how this thing goes together? I asked the guy at the store and he recommended finding another 67 to look at as a reference.....Any help would be much appreciated...

Gem. If my memory serves me right you should set the lock in the unlock position, push it in and use a allen wrench to turn the chrome ring. I cannot remember how to remove the lock itself from its housing, if that is what you wanted to know.

I have the lock unlocked, and get it attached, but the spring loaded clip doesn't seem to keep the door shut....I thought maybe there is a piece missing? maybe it's upside down or something. I'll go ck it out..Thanks

So what moves the latch when you press the button? I guess that is my problem.....It locks in one position and springs back in the other, (like I think it should)but the latch mechanism doesnt move when the button is pressed....??? any hints?

Gem. The latch should move (with the door open) when you press the botton. I know you should "help" the latch with your hand as would the door when you push it in. This way you can exclude the adjustment of the brace on the door. If it does not your problem is in the lock itself. If I remember correctly you can easily remove the innner lock mechanism (when the lock is out of the car and the key is in). It is the chrome ring you screw on with the Allen wrench that holds the lock in its place. Could be mine was worn enough to let this happen.

If at all nescesarry I can remove my lock again to refresh my memory, but I do remember mouting was a bit difficult because of the fascia.

My manuals show the lock in the door, so aparently this setup is different from what was meant to be ?
