: Carb problem...

I have recently bought a 68 malibu with a 70 307, that has a rebuilt top end with an rv2 cam and a rochester Q-jet. I don't have any friends to rely on for help in these situations except for my dad and everyone that uses the Team Chevelle site. The car runs smooth off idle, but when moving at low speeds and at idle it dies. Sounds like the engine is just idle'n too low, thus it dies. I just want to know if this problem could be anything else besides the idle speed setting and how do raise it (I do know that I need to get a screwdriver and tighten a screw next to, I think, the throttle linkage), do I need to get a tachometer? so that I can set the idle to the right speed. The engine started acting like this in a period of about a week. One week it is fine, the next, trouble. I just cleaned some garbage out of the needle seat, because the needle could not stop the flow of fuel and was wondering if that had anything to do with the carb. idling too low now.

Also, could anyone tell me what model the card is? and what the cfm is? The side of the carb has the numbers
7041208 DN
2160

Thanks everyone!

If it idles too slow, speed it up! number is for a 71 model, should work OK on yours if it's good.

Luke; Quick rundown on carb adj. On the bottom in front there are two screws, one one each side. Turn each screw completely in, lightly against bottom, and turn out 2 full turns each screw. Start engine and let idle as slow as possible in park. Turn each screw in or out 1/2 turn until the engine runs as smooth and fast as it will run. Adjust each screw equally. Then adjust the idle speed screw, drivers side near throttle shaft, to get the idle speed you want. A tach would help but not necessary. Just set it where you like it. tom
