I purchased my car this past summer and one of the things that has bothered me with it, is the previous owner had replaced the bench with bucket seats. When he did this, he bolted the seats right to the floor. I heard this is not safe plus this also appears to cause the drivers seat to not sit level. I want to purchase the brackets from NPD. I'm concerned the bucket seats he put in however are not 72's. They look like an earlier chevelle bucket w/no headrest. Can I order the brackets for 72's and will then they fit any Chevelle bucket seat?

Do you have any pics of the seats you could post?? That way we could tell what the seats are from. Or can you give a detailed description of them?? where are the buttons to tilt the seats forward?? What are the side panels like?? etc.

I got on OPG's website to figure out what year seats I have and I think I found my solution. The bracket that OPG sells will work for 64-72 so I should be covered. Its also less than half the price what the NPD brackets were. Interestingly though my seat upholstery didn't match any year exactly. The closest I'd say was a 68 but without the three buttons. The seats have definitely been recovered so who knows what the guy put on there.

Another place I found to be very reasonable is a place called CPU muscle car parts. They are in Chicago and have been very good to work with. The guy to talk to is Brian. Give them a try. They have a web site but it is better to just call and talk to Brian. I think he is the owner and has a pretty good grip on the Chevelle stuff. Good luck

There are two different types of bucket seat brackets. The pair that is a formed strip of sheet stock with a stud in one end and a 4 piece set manufactured by goodmark that adds another piece as did the factory. Both will work but the goodmark brand installed better, fits well and the seats sit perfectly level. graemlins/beers.gif

My buckets are the same way,just bolted through the floor.Does this bracket get welded to the floor?

Yes, at least thats the correct way to do it. I've heard of some people just bolting them down , but they should be welded. It reinforces the floor where the buckets attach. It also levels them. My drivers side seat is low in the the right rear leg so the whole seat is tilting to the right and back. The brackets should fix it.

i have used several sets of the goodmark bucket seat brackets, and they are great(the 4 piece kits) as i remember the left rear bolt hole in the floor (opposite for pass side) is used for the outter hole in the seat-i measured a car with orig buckets so they would be perfect

I just installed the 4 piece bracket set. Its well worth the extra $$ and make sure they are welded in.

Ok guys,sorry to hijack this post but does this bracket look like factory?
I see it has more molding and shape to it verses the others which are just flat steel with some studs welded to it.

The big brackets look the same but the single smaller ones look different.

Why not just order them direct from Goodmark? Same price as the ebay seller, and you are sure to get the correct ones. Goodmark says 68-70 is one type and 71-72 another. 68-70 is part number 4031-507-66S. 71-72 is 4031-507-71S. I bought these and they worked perfect.
