I'm looking for a source to repair and replate the shift plate trim that's part of the dial assembly, on a '69 automatic console. One of the studs is broken and the plating is rough in a couple areas. I believe this is a pot-metal piece. I know repro pieces are available for about $70. Am I better off replacing or repairing?
If repairing is the recommended course, where?
Thanks,
Dennis S

I have an original auto console setup. Shifter, plate, lens etc. Not sure of the year et. It came with some other parts when I bought the car. As I recall it is in good condition and I would be willing to sell it. Let me know if your are interested and I'll recheck it and let you know for sure it's condition and what I want for it.

I ended up replacing the console on my 70 with an aftermarket. The old base was cracked and sthe door would not shut. Anyway the reason I'm telling you this is the reproduction shift plate quality was not that good. I ended up using my old lens because the p-r-n-d-l2-l1 lettering on the repro was poor, it did not even look close. With the best parts from my old & replacement consoles it came out ok, but buy an original GM part if you possible can.

Thanks for the replies.
John, I'll email you about some parts.
Leeds, thanks for the advice. I've heard some repro parts were poor quality. Are the trim plates I'm talking about, poor as well?
