I was putting the front clip on my 64 ss that I had just bought when I go to plug everything in and ehhhhhhhhh wrong answer!!!! the wiring from the headlights and everything is different. The guy also gave me the engine harness along with the harness that was still on the front clip.The front end is a true 64ss front clip.And my car is a true64ss.My car was built in detroit.Whats up? o by the way I got the clip for 500 bucks.Still all bolted together ,headlights still in it horn everything.I still cant beleive it.Those deals are one in a lifetime around here


All I need to know is which wires go to the starter. Can you please help????

mearsman, I can think of at least three different harness' for the 64 SS. 1) 6 cyl -2)V-8 -3)-V-8 w/a/c -4)6cyl w/a/c. OOPS, thats four. I probably added to your problem.

All I need to know is what are the colors of the wires that got o the starter.

Purple goes to the "S" terminal, the yellow or black with a pink stripe, goes to the "R" terminal. Black with an orange stripe goes to the blower motor or ac harness.

O K guys.The color of wires to choose from are as follows.Purple green and blue.I know the black with onange is for the heater .Which ones are for the starter?I have a hunch that the purple is one of them but the other one is the one I need. Thanks guys.

Look and see what color wires go to the + coil, there should be a white braided insulation wire(this comes from the ign. switch), and another wire. Whatever color wire it is, you should have that same color wire on the "R" on the starter.

Purple will go to the "S" on the solenoid (terminal closest to the block)..Blue is normally oil pressure, and green is usually a water temp sensor. (on the engine harness anyway)..All you should need to start is the battery cable to the solenoid and the purple wire on the "S"...usually the other wire to the starter solenoid is yellow, but its not needed to start.

So I got all the wiring to the headlights figured out. I put thepurple wire on the S side of the starter and put the battery cable on. I went to start the car and nothing. The headlights dimmed like it was trying to start. Do you think the battery is dead? Or the solenoid went bad?The starter has been sitting for about a year and half. Thanks

If the head lights dim when the starter is engaged it means one of three things

battery charge low (most likely)
bad cable connection
starter drawing too much current (not likely)

Charged the battery for two days .No luck

I would swap the starter/solenoid assy.

I took it down to auto zone and they tested it .It is fine .I also took the starter for grins.It too also tested ok.I am so close to starting my car but this is a roadblock.Ive tried everything.Now i am getting frustrated.Please help!!!!!!!!!!!
