I'm ready to install my headliner and I would like feedback from those who have replaced their headliners regarding the type of glue you used. Let me know if it worked well or if you would go a different route if you had it to do over again. Thanks for helping.

I used 3M Super Trim Adhesive

Mr 4 speed. Is the Super Trim Adhesive in a spray can? If so how do you keep from getting in the wrong places? Is it possible to work with the headliner after you get the adhesive on, or is it stuck where it first touches? Thanks for responding, Steve.

I used the 3M trim adhesive that is clear and comes in a tube similar to the weatherstriping adhesive. I got plenty on my hands and it is messy. I used 3M adhesive remover to clean up with.

The adhesive takes a little time to get tacky so you will have time to work with it. after a few minutes it will set. I tried to carefully squirt it onto the metal but ended up puting it on a cheap 1" paint brush and applied it with that. It doesn't take much but it is a pain, especially if you're as big as me. I felt like a contorsionist when putting the headliner in my elky.

Anyway, goodluck!

Steve,
Last year when I did mine, I was paranoid after reading many replies suggesting to take it to a professional. I'm glad I did not listen. Yes, it will be a time consuming job if you do it right.
Anyway, after researching many posts and gathering advice from many, - some said to use 3M, some said to use contact cement, some said rubber glue. I purchased all those and practiced on the extra material that came with the headliner/sailpanels.
Remember, at times you will be in awkward positions in the vehicle when you apply the adhesive to the headliner/vehicle.

One day on the way home, I stumbled into an upholstery shop to pick up some hog rings and saw to my disbelief a 1970 Malibu having the headliner replaced in the back of the building. I ran over to the guy quickly to peek. He was using a hot glue gun! He swore that that was the only way. He said he's been doing it like that for 20+ years.
The car he was working on came out smooth and real tight.
Well, I bought the gun and did mine. It worked awesome. The glue sets quick and is secure. You simply pull to stretch, apply and secure for a moment.
Yes it is hot to the touch so be careful. I still have a scar because some dripped on me.
This was my first headliner and it looks showroom mint.
Good luck
Ron

I used the spray 3M "90" Super Adhesive. It sets fast.. For the Harder areas, I used a hot glue gun.. The glue gun works great on redoing the door panels as well.
