: exhaust question
gbeck Jan 16th, 00, 5:00 PM I am planning to purchase a pair of 2 chamber flowmaster muflers for my 68 malibu 454.Can anyone advise wheather I should get offset inlet and outlet or should they be in line with one another? and they have different series of two chamber mufflers,40 and 50, which one would be the best to keep the lope of a mild street cam, I don't want it to be too quiet. Thanks for any info, Greg
gUmBaLL68Malibu Jan 16th, 00, 6:30 PM well a friend of mine has a 72 camaro with 40 series 2 chamber's and i don't really like loud becuase it starts to lose its fun after about 10 min of highway driving. His car sucks on the freeway @ about 2000 it just drones like hell he does have his mufflers to tails but the tails point down right about @ the bumper and the interior resonance SUCKS bad on the freeway. but like i said i don't like loud. He thinks that they aren't loud enough and he wants to have it dump right after the mufflers tot he ground and i would imagine that would make it louder. But you said you want soemthign thats not quiet but i believe that the 40 series are louder, i heard that the edelbrock rpm series are like running open headers nearly but thats gotta be hella loud. He wants louder and when im in his car i want them quieter http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif.
gibbons Jan 16th, 00, 6:39 PM My 468 had Hooker Comps, cross over, 2.5" to the muffs, 2.25" from the muffs to the rear of the car, and turn downs. I have DynoMax muffs which I think sound silly.
I too want to put 2 chambers on, I don't care about interior resonance. But will these be too noisy for the officers, if I watch the R's in crowded areas?
DZAUTO Jan 16th, 00, 6:40 PM Can I throw in 2cents?
Probably very few people could, but crazy ole DZ could drive around, in town or interstate, with open headers. Now to me, that's music!
But you know, I know, and the boys in blue know that ain't going to happen.

Wes Colby Jan 16th, 00, 7:20 PM Greg, get the 40 series (2 chambers) with offset inlet and outlet. I'm with Gibbons and Tom, the louder the better IMO! Here in Houston, I haven't been hassled once by HPD for noise levels and I've been using 2 chamber Flows for almost a year now.

gUmBaLL68Malibu Jan 16th, 00, 8:00 PM Oh i don't think that the officers will hasle on 2 chamber flows lots of people have them and more people keep buying if there were really that bad some1 would have said somethign by now there not that loud that its in noise violation by most cops.
gbeck Jan 17th, 00, 9:47 AM I would'nt mind getting 3 chamber mufflers as long as I can get a nice rumble from them. I want to be carefull that it won't be too loud. I just figured that the 2 chamber would be my choice, but not if they are too loud. It would be nice if I could here them that would help in my decision.
elcamino72 Jan 17th, 00, 10:34 AM You know what they say, If it's too loud your too old. LOL, have fun and the 2 chamber Flows sound great.
