Sorry this isn't for my chevelle but this is the best tech section I know of on the internet. I bought a 80 blazer and I am replacing the carpet on the floor. The panels on the side in the back are in good shape but the small piece of carpet on them is faded. I want to re-dye it the same color of dark blue. Has anyone done this? Where do you buy the dye? It's just a driver and no show piece other wise I would have the carpet replaced which is really the proper way- but hey for a driver I'm trying to save a buck.

I have seen dye that comes in boxes as powder, mix with water and dye the carpet. I havent dont it but its got to be better than the spray dye ( I did this as a teen and it makes the carpet hard as rock!)

What droptop says about the spray dye (actually paint) making the carpet hard as a rock is true, but there is a way to avoid that. Get a can of SEM vinyl spray paint (sold by some auto parts stores and resto catalogues, Eastwood has it for sure). You'll notice on the can label it's also rcommended for carpet re-coloring. Spray a light coat on the carpet and use a stiff scrub brush to work it in. Repeat spraying and brushing for about 3 coats. The brushing keeps the fibers from becoming stuck together, thus avoiding that "rock hard" feel.

There is a spray dye made for this called Mar-Hyde. I used it to dye the whole interior of a 68 camaro black, was that ugly lime green color. It works good, but do not use it in a closed in space, it will make you plenty light headed. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/confused.gif
