My ashtray just flops open. I assume that there should be a spring to keep it closed. Can anyone advise if that is so and if so....Where can I get a Spring for the ashtray?

To my knowledge, no one repops those springs. Professional restorer I talked to uses 72 ashtrays (no spring)

Does anyone have a picture of what it looks like? I have a bunch of oddball small springs at work and one of them may work for this application, ya never know.

Thanks anyone out there help with a picture?

And when you go to buy a repro ashtray they are for 70-72 and seem to need a spring. so I guess I need a spring or a nos or used 1972 ashtray

I have a picture of the spring and will e-mail you a copy. It's one of those things that goes back together easy if you have a picture versus next to impossible if you don't have a picture. You need 2 springs (one for each side) and it's easy if you completely remove the ash tray assembly, install the 2 springs, and then put it back in. You have to go from behind the dash and you may have to remove your radio.
