: How to remove dash bezel?

I already have my dash top off.....what is required to remove the dash bezel/glove box assembly from my '71? It's a sweep style speedo. Oh....does the speedo have to come out too? Or does it stay in? And just how big of a job is this? Thanks.

I'm wondering the same thing on my 72. I replaced the speedo cable but trying to clip it back into the back of the speedo assembly has been the hardest part. It's still not done. If I could figure out how it goes back in, or how to pull that assembly off, then I could get my hands in there and see what's going on. I've taken out all bolts in sight and it's still holding onto something for dear life. :(

JunkYard Dawg,
If I am not mistaken the glovebox asssembly is part of the dash itself and only the misc pieces like the door and light can be removed without pulling the dash (how it is on my 70) Pretty sure it's the same dash. I pulled the dash out of my car completely with the speedo in the dash. I almost certain the dash has to come out to get the speedo cluster out(can someone confirm?)

It's not really that hard... just need 4 hands to get it all out....

MalibuMan,
I feel for you. I had a stroke of luck hooking my speedo cable back in. It went right back in. be sure to loosen up the two hex nuts that are diagonal to the cable assembly and be sure you get the cable under the 'sleeve' (for lack of better words)

I installed the dash late at night after countless profanities so guys be sure to correct me if I am wrong....

Yes I am aware the dash and glovebox are all one piece.I need to replace the dash because someone hacked up the hole for the radio.

The dash assy in my living room is a sweep style out of a 70. It's mounted via a metal frame on the back of the bezel with 7 bolts. 2 left side, 2 center, 2 right and 1 above the column. Left and right are pretty obvious. Centers are just to the left of the glove box by the radio and the last one was hidden by the steering column. It's designed to be installed / removed as an assy. IE: all the gauges, switches and radio etc. get mounted into the dash and wired-up or "plugged-in" as a unit. Think "factory assembly line". The only exception is the heater control. I unscrewed it from the bezel and left it hanging there. Too many cables and vacuum hoses. I hope I never have to take it off again. graemlins/angry.gif But if I do, I'll pull the steering wheel and drop the column to the floor first. Remember, everything on that dash is mounted with metal screws screwed into plastic. Be real careful pulling on stuff. graemlins/clonk.gif Hope this helps.

good tips. Is the 70 dash assy at all close to the 72? I imagine it's possible since they're so alike in many other ways, but I've never had a 70 so I don't know for sure. Thanks for the info. Nice name Mustang Killer. My plates on my Chevelle read "FRDKILR". Hahaha! ;)

70 to 72 dashes come out the same way.
