I bought a used stock wheel for my 67 at a swap meet and it was painted red at one time. I sanded it,wiped it with kleen-sol and painted it black but the paint burnt when I applied it!I just finished stripping
it down to the factory blue paint and want to paint it again with better results this time. What paint can I use from the local hardware store to give better results.

Eastwood sells a good paint for interiors, including steering wheels. They sell a prep stuff too, I hear it opens pores in the plastic and the special paint soaks in better.

Although I have never used it myself, I have seen the results and it was great even in 110* summers.

I have the stuff to spray a 70 steering wheel, but I have not done it yet.

I was told by a local body shop I trust to use Urethane paint, but before I started sanding it, to use a degreaser, a couple times. Then sand, fill cracks, sand, shoot flexible primer, wet sand, shoot Urethane.

I know the cleaner-degreaser step is the critical step.
