Any tips or tricks I should know about installing new headrest and seatcovers on my 70 chevelle? This is a bench seat interior. I have never done this before and value the information I receive from Team Chevelle people. Thanks, Tracy.

My first upholstry job was the front bench and rear bench in my 70 Malibu.

I have some pics on my web page.

Take your time, let the covers warm up in the sun. Verify you have a front drivers and passenger side backrest cover. I had two drivers sides and had to exchange it. PUI fedex'ed it next day. Get some good hog ring pliers, hog rings, and start with back seat first. It was easier and by the time you finish it you'll have some experience. I used a pic-nic table covered with an old blanket to work on the seats.

NOTES: You have to reuse the wire running thru the welts in the old seat covers. I suggest buying new burlap to place between the foam and the springs. The side support spring and 2 backrest springs were broken in my seat. You may have to salvage springs from another seat.

I installed the seat medallions before I put the front covers on. I cut a slit for the headrest bar after the seat was covered. Oh, when you cover the front bottom, and you pull the vinyl over the hinge post on the side, you need to slit the vinyl. Make sure your slit is not too big or it will show.

If you get stuck drop me a line. I did not get headrest covers as I lucked into an original pair in perfect shape. I still have a pair of white ones in good shape (from the seat I salvaged) if you need that color.
