: bucket seat identification
baddbob71 Jun 24th, 04, 11:53 PM I bought my 71 Chevelle a few years back in pieces, it was taken apart in the mid eighties and stored in a barn untill I bought it. The bucket seats were missing and I've been having a hard time finding a pair. A friend of mine dropped off a set last week that are in descent shape needing only covers so I looked through my OPG catalogue to see what should be ordered. Problem is these seats don't have the headrests. Did all buckets for 71 have headrests? I was told malibus ordered with buckets didn't have headrests. Also the seatbacks and lower side covers are metal and there is no release buttons on the backs. Anyone know if these will work or are right? Maybe I'll post some pics. Bob
BK72SS Jun 25th, 04, 4:11 AM They definitely don't sound like 71 bucket seats, all 71 buckets will have headrest and the release button is located on the center of the seat back and the seat backs and sides are plastic not metal. If the seats your friend dropped off are indeed from a Chevelle they sound like they are from a 67, 67 bucket seats did not have headrest but did have metal backs and the release button was on the side of the seat. If you could post a picture of them it would make it alot easier to tell you what they came from.

67shovel Jun 25th, 04, 8:49 AM Sounds like 66's. Metal backs, no release button, & no head rests. Will bolt in and work but won't be "correct". They are worth enough to a 66 guy to get your correct 71 seats though.

baddbob71 Jun 26th, 04, 9:37 AM I wonder if these might be out of an olds, pontiac or buick instead of a chevelle because I can't seem to find any covers in my chevelle parts catalogues that match up patternwise. Boy if someone here can nail these down to year and model for me I sure would appreciate it. No sense in using these in my 71 if someone else needs them. Bob
droptop396 Jun 26th, 04, 7:35 PM The seats look like 66 cutlass/ 442 seats.
They are the same seat for chevelle, GTO skylark, GS.
The pattern is different but the seats are the same.
Can also be used in other 66 GM cars but the seat tracks would be different for the big cars, or Nova etc......
baddbob71 Jul 2nd, 04, 9:06 AM I looked at cutlass and 442 interiors from 66-68 and they are different, anybody else have an idea what these are out of? TTT
72ElCaminoSS Jul 2nd, 04, 10:06 AM They are 66 Tempest / GTO

As was said though, any A body cover will fit (inc. 66 Chevelle).
I would find a 66 GTO owner though smile.gif
baddbob71 Jul 4th, 04, 11:05 AM 72ElCaminoSS, you rock! Thanks for identifying these seats and the photo link. Now I can list them on ebay and hopefully find a pontiac owner that needs them. I'll be seaching for the correct seats for my car. Bob
