: Dash Mod
67Ken Jan 28th, 03, 6:56 PM Howdy folks. I've got a 67 Chevelle and I have a beautiful set of Auto Meter Phantom series guages, I'd love to put them in the car, but I need to modify the dash.
I've never messed with anything like this and was wondering where you guys thing I should start?
I dont want to ruin the whole thing, but I want to have a nice face with my guages.

67Ken Jan 28th, 03, 7:25 PM Thanks for the Reply, that is actually extremely close to what I want, I wouldn't mind a flat metal as the insert, and 4 of my guages are 3 3/4" and two are the smaller kind :-\
shannont Jan 29th, 03, 6:30 AM Hey Ken I just installed my autometers last week. It looks pretty trick. I bought the haneline dash insert for my 67. I had it custom made because I didn't want the fancy smancy turned metal look, and I didn't want a radio. I'm gonna snap some pics this evening and post.

67Ken Jan 29th, 03, 3:33 PM I like the idea of the Haneline Guage cluster...but like I said I need 4 big guages and 2 small ones, and I dont like the diamond stamped one, I like an aluminum look or something I can easily upolster.

Yeah I like the brushed look so I had him leave the little diamond swirly things off. It came out alright.

67Ken Jan 29th, 03, 11:10 PM Wow, that is nice. I really like it a lot.
Did the $300 include the part above the dash ?
I really do like that, I wonder if he'd be able to make it for 4 big guages and two little ones.
shannont Jan 29th, 03, 11:55 PM Nope the top part didn't come with the stainless peices. He will make the plates how ever you want them. I told him the size of my gauges and he cut the holes. I also told him not to put a hole for the radio..... and voila here it is.

67Ken Feb 1st, 03, 6:38 PM Do you mean that it came with both pieces? The guage cluster, and the part that goes across to above the glove box?
Marina_Blue_67_SS Feb 1st, 03, 10:31 PM I emailed Covans Classics because they have panels for other cars. http://www.covansclassic.com
They are working aon a panel for the 66-67 Chevelles. Super Chevy and Chevy Hi-Po usually have ads showing what the panel look like
They are going to contact me when it avaiable

gchandler Feb 2nd, 03, 2:21 AM I recently disassembled an autometer gauge to find out how they are put together. The bevel is pressed on and holds the glass in place. After bending and removing the bevel and the glass the gauge needle is easily pulled off and the front of the gauge is removable with screws. It would be rather easy to use the internal parts of an autometer gauge along with custom graphics of you own design to make a gauge cluster the mounts flush to the panel with maybe a glass cover. Just a thought.
