: Carpet ??? (I already did a search!)
dan_cobb Oct 9th, 03, 1:43 AM I'm looking at replacing the carpet this winter. I wondered if anyone had done this with the more expensive "German-style" rather than the "loop-style" which is original. Any fedback on the quality, fit, ease of install, etc would be appreciated as usual.
BTW, is this 1 or 2 pieces? The original type is 2 with a seam under the frt seat.

67shovel Oct 9th, 03, 9:42 AM If you want to use something other then the stock replacement you will probably have to go custom. Find a trim shop in you area and talk with them. They can do it anyway your money tells them.

427L88 Oct 10th, 03, 12:48 PM The loop style ( at least the ACC I put in) do not wear very well. Made the mistake of vacuuming it with a plastic nozzle. Instant fray. If you find a "modern" rug that fits, I'd be interested.
rick Oct 11th, 03, 1:33 AM I have the later style nylon brush carpet in my el camino. A local upholstery shop ordered it and i recieved it within a week. It was "formed" to fit and came in 1 piece. It looks pretty good but took some work to make the "formed" carpet fit correctly. It cost slightly more than the stock carpet.
I'm pretty sure that ACC carpets can make one to fit using the cut pile (correct name I think). They are at www.accmats.com (http://www.accmats.com) And they will probably do a better job.
dan_cobb Oct 11th, 03, 1:44 AM While browsing through the OPG catalog, I uncovered the "high-end" carpet advertised to be the same as Mercedes, etc. It lists for &179, whereas the loop-type is currently on sale for $90.
I think double the cost should mean double the quality, but I'm somewhat skeptical.
How much did you shell out for the one piece that you have, and would you do it again?

RussD Oct 11th, 03, 3:58 AM Dan,
Take the car to an upholstery shop. I had my carpet done a couple years ago in the "modern" carpet for 150 installed. I didn't shop around either, I'm sure you could find it cheaper somewhere.

RussD Oct 12th, 03, 2:54 AM Dan,
Perez Upholstery in South Pasadena, they're on Fairoaks just above the first onramp for the 110 freeway.(Just a little bit past the intersection at California and Fairoaks on the west side of the street) They did my seats and carpet in a day, dropped the car off before work at 8 and it was done by 6 when I got off. You'd have to give them a call or stop by to see what they can do for ya. Number is 626-799-7945

It's about what I want my 66 to look like when I get it completed (if!).
Anyway, thanks for the contact information. I'll be giving them a call when it comes time for the carpet to go in (this winter!).

RAMBO Oct 13th, 03, 7:56 PM I bought the 'Cut Pile' from ACC for my old 69 elky- was awesome... I had to special order it, but was still only like $109 or something like that. It was molded to the floor pan, and looked/felt great. I would buy from them again...

RAMBO Oct 14th, 03, 5:51 PM Yes, thats right- www.accmats.com (http://www.accmats.com)
Auto Custom Carpet Inc.
If you go to their website and look through their various carpet style- I believe you can get Any of their styles custom formed for our cars- you just have to call and special order it.
If i remember correctly, the Cut Pile was not listed for our cars on their site, only the 80/20 loop- I called and requested it- and they did it.
dan_cobb Oct 15th, 03, 1:04 AM They have some pretty wild color choices! Who can imagine having "White", "Hugger Orange", "Chrome Yellow", "Limelight Green", "Electric Blue", "Flaming Fuscia", or "Royal Purple" carpet!
I suppose this is for the folks that already have nothing else to spend money on for their cars.
I found cut pile listed at $143.
I'll be givignthem a call to verify the price, availability, etc. I'll post any relevant info.
Thanks for the info gents!
