i ordered an interior kit from ausley's chevelle, last spring for my 1969 el camino. i got around to workign on the seats finally and there seems to be a sizing discrepency between the covers and the original seat.

i have not removed the original (maybe?) seat cover. but it seems like the cover (split upright) is an inch or so shorter then the seat in width. the same thing with the main bench cover except about 2 inches short.

did they make 2 different bench seats in 69? the covers dont have a hole cut for the head rests (or head reast material for that matter)

thanks for any insite you guys have. this damn classic car thing is really frustrating.....

I just re-upholstered the seats on my 72. I also used PUI covers. They only SEEM to be too small. They have to be stretched over the seats by turning them inside out(mine were shipped this way), and pushing them down over the seats a little at a time. Sort of like the reverse of peeling a bananna smile.gif As far as the holes for the headrests, no they were not there. Once my covers were on I could feel where they were supposed to be, and I cut the material accordingly. If the 69 headrests are held on the same as the 72, you could also reinstall the screws that hold the brackets on before installing the covers to aid in finding the area afterwards. Hope this helps, and good luck. Dennis

hey thanks that helps out my confidence a lot.

how do you remove the headrests? do you see the brackets when you remove the cover?

i was kind of upset because the sucker wont start and today while removing the starter (didnt disconect the battery) i caused a small electrical fire and caught the right front brake line on fire and losing the fluid.

but hey it could have been worse like oil or tranny fluid (like i first thought)

Again, I'm not sure of the '69, but on my 72 headrests there is a tab(for height adjustment) under the headrest that you push inward and pull the assy. out. Under that is a plastic bracket that is screwed to a metal bracket which is screwed to the seatback over top of the cover.
