hey you guys, i have a 70 chevelle with tan or saddle interior, and i think that i want to paint it black, i mean seats, dash, panels, etc. is there a good dye or paint that can change the color of my interior without cracking or fading or peeling off in a year or so.... when i bought the car someone re-upolsted all of the interior and i guess kept the tan color. the reason i want to change colors or the interior is so that i can have a more wide variety to choose from when it comes to matching an body paint.... thanks graemlins/beers.gif

I have seen redyed interiors and you can usually see the original color coming through the seats. I've tried to just dye new dash pads and followed all the instructions only to have the stuff flake off. Personaly, I would keep the tan or try to trade someone for black stuff.

I would change the whole interior if I were you. I had green interior in my chevelle and I tried to dye the door panels first. Now, in my opinion it came out like S**t, so, I decided to buy all new black interior pieces. Now, this is only my experiences and I've just started on my chevelle project in the past 6 months. But, I had no patience and I didn't want some interior that looked black one week and faded to green the next. Good luck, and I agree with changing to black.........it matches every body color. Take care graemlins/thumbsup.gif

I've changed the color on 2 different interiors. do yourself a favor and dont dye the seats, they will not last. door panels can usually get by several years depending on the wear daily driver vs. weekend cruiser. you can dye items like kick panels, dashes, arm rest bases, etc. below is the way I do when I change color on interior

headliner - new
sun visors - new
seat covers - new
door panels - new
package tray - new
sail panels - new
carpet - new
door handle pads - new
dash- dye
kick panels - dye
seat belts - dye
console (if equiped) - dye
door handle bases - dye
interior metal pieces - paint
interior plastic molding - dye
steering column - paint
steering wheel - paint

costly yes, but changing the interior color and having it look factory is no easy task.

I have use the SIM brand paint from a painters supply store on all plastic parts in my firebird and it works great. You have to get the Plastic Prep and Sand Free before you put your color down, then I used the same brand clear over the top for extra protection and its been 2 years and it still holding up.

Good Luck, I hope this helped out a little !! graemlins/waving.gif
