I have a 1971 Chevelle Malibu and want to put a new audio system in it. I dont want to cut on the dash panel to install a new stereo. Does anyone have any ideas or plans for building some sort of box or case that would fit on the floor between the seats, or mount under the dash somehow. Has anyone else attempted this  Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

At most stereo stores they sell a plastic universal mounting box to do what you just asked. They cost about $20 and come in black. You can paint them to match you interior. Usually mounted under the dash.

I have the Custom Autosound Secret Audio (http://www.customautosound.com/secretaudio.php) unit with IR Remote.

Works great. I still have my original 8 track unit in the dash so no one knows the other unit is in the car.

I too have considered using a CustomAutosound system to replace the factory AM in my 66. I'm not necessarily asking if their product is good or bad, I'm asking about OTHER alternatives because a stock 66 AM is not good enough and I need to do something.

Here's (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3055380540&category=3288) another option.

Hey Bill,

Where did you mount the control unit for your Hidden Audio? Considering this for the '65.

Thanks!

I removed the dash pad and mounted it on top of the glove box. I ran the LCD panel wire into the glove box and just left it loose in there.

The remote control rides in the seat belt pocket on the side of my console.
