1970 with buckets: I'm putting in new foam. When in the recovering process do you hog ring the seam which goes through the crease in the foam to the springs? I put the covers on then tried to put a hog ring through from the spring side into the foam then to cover, it is almost impossible to find the seam of the cover. Do you hog ring the seams first then put the cover over the rest of the seat? My first seat back I did, I used 14" wire ties and put them through the seams and foam (when the cover was just over the top end of the seat) then put the cover on the rest of the way. Then from the spring side I pulled the wire ties tight until I got the correct look. This does give areas that make the seam area look pulled tight in spots. How do the professionals do it?

I tried on mine as well and after struggling with it for what felt like too long. I got out my adhesive spray fixed the foam and did it without doing it. At this point they are fine but I am going to install the seats this weekend so I don't know for sure how it will hold up.

UPHOLSTERY SHOP HERE!
you will have all your fun with the AFTERMARKET foam. its a B**** to work with!
1st. yes! you hogring the cloth incert
thru the foam (to attach to the frame)
doing this is fun! sometimes I cut thru the foam to get to the frame wire.
once you do that, use a heat gun to soften the vinyl to "stretch" around the corners of the foam
to make the job more easier to do. then hogring in place
sounds easy?
even after 25 years at upholstery, the aftermarket foam ,arghhhhhh graemlins/clonk.gif

Thanks for the help. I will probably stay with the 14" wre ties and pre install them. That seems to work good.
