So as I posted earlier I got the console and shifter from a 72 Monte Carlo a guy is parting out. I have been reading about the conversion and now I am wondering if there is a rod from the shifter to the coloumn that I need also. Does the same shift linkage from the coloumn shifter work with the floor shifter to actuate the steering lock on the coloumn? Any info is greatly appreciated. If I need something else I could probably get it from this same car before he sells it all off for parts. I have a 1969 assemby manual and am trying to understand how it all works. I probably won't actually do the conversion for a while but would like to take advantage of this parts car. Thanks RichF

It's the same linkage (from what I've read). But, the connection to the side of the trainsmission is different. (You need the piece that connects the tranny, the linkage, and the cable together)

Thanks again. After spending a little time going through the assembly manual it looks like it is the same linkage and states that . I got the cable and a bracket with two mounting holes that look like they will mount the cable to the tranny somewhere.
Have you recently done this or are you in the process of doing this conversion? I am sure I will have more questions once I get started making the change over.
I could also get the steering coloumn from this car ( a tilt unit ) but don't know if I want to take that on at this time, probably should though. Thanks alot for your help.

Also if anyone is interested in a power bucket seat I'd be happy to trade for a stock 72 bucket.

I'm in the process of doing it right now actually. I bought the bracket to hook up to the transmission. but, it doesn't have the part to hook up to the linkage. THat's not high on my priority list now though. I need to get my shifter and cable adjusted right, paint my floors, and finally get my carpet and seats back in.
I'd love to trade for a power seat. but, I'm not sure if there's any differences in the seats, or just the tracks. I just got done spending a lot of time and money redoing the seat itself and wouldn't want to trade it. but, I'd trade for the power track if that's the only difference.
I'd get the tilt column as well. It'll serve two purposes 1) Obviously gives you a tilt wheel to clear the taller buckets and 2) It'll give you a floor mount column, eliminating the shifter.
If you don't want the column, I'd be tempted to pick it up, if you weren't so far up north.

Yeah, I don't know either if the only difference is the tracks or not on the buckets. I really only wanted the console and shifter but it was kind of a package deal. Too cheap to pass up. The driver seat is in need of new foam . I will probably try to sell the set. Bucket seats for these are hard to come by. I'll have to call back and check on the colomn tomorrow. RichF
There is no difference in the bucket seats only the tracks. I have both the power and manual tracks. I have getting ready to put in the power seat in my car, oh and the tracks work!

Does the power track work?
I might consider trading tracks (I need to get more info)

I really do not know if it works or not. It appears complete but was all ready out of the car when I got it. Some one else has e-mailed me about swapping the tracks but I don't know where he is located. I think it will cost quite a bit to ship as it is a pretty heavy piece. At least the driver seat with the power unit is a lot heavier than the passenger seat without the power unit. E-mail me if you are interested. I don't want to pay for shipping these, I thought maybe some one around Sacramento might be interested in swapping for regular tracks and also the cover with the switch for the seat. Thanks , RichF
