I would appreciate any suggestions as to which brand of cooler, and how big for my application? 70 El Camino, with a fairly built 454, turbo 400, 3.31 gears, quite a bit of stoplight driving, 3000 stall converter. Thanks in advance, Don http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

You wont need too large of one if you plumb it in series with your factory cooler in the radiator. I usually use the smallest one offered and install it in series as I stated. For example, summitt sells their own coolers with their name on it and the smallest one is for 16000-18000gvw..plenty big enough, and only around $40. I put em on all my automatics, regardless of whether they have higher stall converters or shift kits. Heat kills automatics, so its cheap insurance.

I always use the ones made by B&M, they are more durable than the tube kind and they also look alot better.

Don, if you can swing it, do check out the units made by B&M because your high stall and rear gear combo are a heat generating recipe. She's definitely going to be doing the 'slippage routine' during low speed cruising. There's not a thing wrong with that, you just want to keep those temps down.

The B&M's are built like a miniture radiator with numerous flattened cooling tubes that offer more surface area to release heat than a standard tube-type cooler. I used to use a large tube-type cooler on my TH350 with (at the time) a 3,000 holeshot and the temps were getting up there quick (have an electrical tranny temp guage) during low speed cruising. I remember seeing a noticeable temp drop once I switched over to the B&M cooler. The one I use is called their 'racing' unit and I think was the largest one they offered at the time. Hope whatever you choose keeps her cool for ya!

Hi
Down here in the low desert I run two b&m coolers just to cover both ends. It helps to pre-cool the radiator and on a 115+ degree day every little bit helps
