I need some advise/opinions about engine painting. My plan is to use VHT directly on a clean block with no primer. Is there a better method/material to obtain a long lasting engine paint job?

well from previous painting ive found that thevht is good paint but i first clean my block with MEK methel ethel keytone. can get it at paint stores and some large hardware type stores. cleans all types of oils and residues out of the block. good luck

If you really want the motor to look good & keep looking good, use POR-15. They have an engine paint kit that's real reasonable. Rattle can paint is not nearly as tough.

If you go with Bill's suggestion, be careful when handling MEK. I'm required to use a resperator and rubber gloves when handling it at work. It's toxic stuff.

I just use GM Chevy orange engine paint.
Nothing beats it.

You dont need VHT paint on the engine. If it got that hot that it required VHT it would be toast...FRED
