Hi I was wondering if anyone knows if an am/fm radio from a 66 or 67 chevelle has the same faceplate? Do they look the same or is one different from another? I have a 66 radio with a bowtie in the faceplate lens, the face of the radio kicks out to meet the dash as other 67 radios that I have seen,but the chrome face is not as thick as the 67. Is this radio correct? Anyone have any factory tag numbers or information or pictures to look at? Thanks I found the model number tag on this radio and it is 986101, does anyone know what this is from?

This applies to ALL 1966 and 1967 radios;
They are NOT THE SAME!!!
The buttons have a different appearance at the tips, more of a rounded contour beginning in the 1967 model year. Other than that they look very much the same, using the same face bezels and layouts, very confusing for Chevelle enthusiasts. The AM/FMs also differed besides just the buttons, the 1966 and 1967's have slightly differnt designs on the slide bar (the am/fm switch). Off the top of my head, I can't remember the exact difference or what year--one have a different "tip" on the slide switch.

From what you described you don't have a 66/67 Chevelle radio. 1965 was the last year for a bowtie in the dial on Chevelle radios.

The model numbers are:

1966 Am pushbutton radio: 986528

1966 Am/Fm pushbutton radio: 986529

1967 Am pushbutton radio: 986853

1967 Am/Fm pushbutton radio: 986854

66's have a pointed tip on the am/fm slidebar while the 67 is rounded.

Everyone is going to be dazzled by Joe's radio work, if you have radio info, please contact Joe so it can be a part of his project. I'm honored to be able to peek at his work from time to time.

I don't recollect a bowtie on any 66 or 67 radios.
