I want to replace the front belts in my '67. The retractor spindle is held in the mounting bracket by a small retaining ring and pin. Anyone know what will happen when I remove the ring and pull out the pin that retains the spindle? Should the belt be in the exended or rewound position when I do this? Will the spring unwind and be impossible to reinstall? How do you rewind the mechanism after the new belt has been installed? If you can give me some info, I'd certainly appreciate it.

dont. you might want to get in touch with snake-oyl products (they advertise in hemmings) or with krebs (330.332.9830). replace the seatbelts as a unit, now i'm not saying it can't be done; but seatbelts is a safety item, you just dont want them to fail

Thanks, I've already talked with Snake-Oyl, but I'm not interested in what they have. My intent is to install the new belt into the factory retractor bracket, exactly like the original installation. Snake-Oyl sells belts, but if they come with the entire bracket/retractor setup, they didn't say so. Most belts come with a metal eyelet which will bolt in okay, but I've yet to find any under 74 in. long, which makes them far too long to use.

Call Krebs. He knows these things inside out and it's a one guy operation so he's probably more likely to help you out than Snake-Oyl.
