I searched this site for a compete description of this process but could only find bit and pieces. I'm sure this has been covered a lot.

I am ready to install my bucket seats in my '69 that originally had a bench. The aftermarket brackets are on the way. I have found conflicting information as to whether or not I need to move the outer holes in 3/4" per the note in the Year One catalog. A past post on this board implied that only the front hole needs to be moved in.

I have new carpet and sound deadener. Are there any tips, tricks, gotchas that I should know about? How is the carpet secured under the rocker panel covers? What about under the dash and at the rear seat? (The last owner did a crumby job and so I cannot use what's there as an example.)

As always, the help of this board is greatly appreciated.

Bob,

When I installed buckets into my 72 El Camino, I had the luxury of a factory bucket seat 72 ragtop to take measurements from. The rear outer threaded hole was in the same location on both cars. You only need to move the front outer hole in. The factory welded a additional bracket/stud for each bucket.

Good Luck,

Cut the carpet for the rockers last!! Put your tar paper in first. The carpet will lay in ovet the shifter (are you going to shifter and console) anyway, once you get the carpet just laying in, I started from the seatbelts on the trans hump. Under the dash the carpet fits up under the (what do you call this) firewall liner. Cut the hole for hi-beam button, trim carpet slowly so it fits up under the kickpanels. Really take your time with this, also leave it in the heat because the carpet will settle in. Dont cut the carpet for your sill plates (rockers) until last, after seats are in and it should go most of width (3" or 4") of the sill, cut V for screw holes. I do have some photos if it helps. Cutting the flaps for the seat holes is tricky, better test fit your seats first! Use the seatbelt bolts to hold the carpet in place for your trim work. Mine had buckets already, sorry no info on the bolt holes (except check in the fisher body manual)

Thanks you guys. It's a help.

No, I won't be installing a floor shifter or console yet. Is there anything that I should do in preparation for that?
