OK Gang,
In the process of tearing apart my 396 and I know I need to do a rebuild. Can I use any parts out of a 402?
I can get a 402 cheaper than a 396. I need to rework the heads and get a crankshaft for the 396, as well as have it bored out some.

Thanks, Ryan

A 402 is a .030 over 396, and all the parts interchange. The pistons from a 402 will work if you bore the 396 block to match them.

Ryan,
A 402 is nothing but a FACTORY .030 over 396. Period. The ADVERTISED 396 of 1970 was actually a 402. A few people here have reported late production, virgin, 1969 396s that were actually 402s. And, as far as I know, 70 heads were closed chamber and 71-later heads were ALL open chamber which will make a difference in piston selection. Otherwise, everything should mix and match.
