My 65 elcamino has a blower motor relay mounted on the upper right side firewall. Originally, this was an air conditioned car but no more. What is the purpose of the relay and do I still need it? If so, does anyone know the wiring scheme?

1chevycar, Hi and welcome to the BEST site on the net. To answer your question, yes you will need all the circuitry for the blower to work, There is also a resister in the circuit. If you don't have an assembly manual, you should get one, it has the wiring diagrams in it . You can get one from our site sponsor, Ground UP. Are you missing parts of the A/C system?

The purpose of the relay is to handle the high current of the blower when high speed is selected. This keeps your dash switch from burning out. The relay is only energized in HIGH.

Hey guys, thanks for the welcome! This is a great site! Not that I know alot about the air conditioning system, but I can tell you that the compressor is gone. Everything else is still there. I disconnected all the stuff beneath the dash for the air conditioning cause the blower ran when it should not have. The only reason I knew this was a relay was because I seen it advertised in a restoration catalog and that got me thinking about its purpose. I have three different wiring schematics from different companys but none show the relay. At least now, I know its needed and what it does and thats a start. Anything else you might think of regarding the relay is appreciated and thanks for the help!
