I am trying to find the correct part number for my 72 Delco Am/Fm radio. Basically I need the knobs to be over or close to 6 1/2". Every radio I find is about 5 1/2. What up with that? Thanks Dean

Are you asking which aftermarket radios will fit? If so, unless you buy one of the high-dollar specialty replacements, the only ones that will fit are those that have the adjustable tuner/volume shafts. Even those are getting hard to find. Try PepBoys etc. Audiovox makes(or used to make) a decent replacement AM/FM/Cassette with adjustable shafts.

I bought a JVC AM/FM Cassette one with the knobs a while back from the Paddock. It's been in there for two years and was real easy to install. It's got the two shafts, 88 watts, and 15 presets plus 6 more for AM. It's layed out nice, a lot better than the Custom Autosound radios and looks better IMO. It has the digital display on the left and 6 buttons on the other side and even has green illumination at night. I'm real happy with it. It cost me around $200 but was well worth it. It's model KX-RS177, and if you want I could email you a picture of it if you like.

Unless you are a stickler about date of manufacture, GM used the same radio in several models during much of the 70s. I have 2-3 of them, but I think mine are AM w/8 track. The original radio from my 72 looks identical to the original that I removed from my 78 Corvette except for the volume/tuner knobs.

The item you are seeking is not a cheap one. The last time I saw one was at Chevellebration last year, and the guy wanted $275 for it. Good luck. Cal

Delco changed the style of numerals on the dial for 1977 just so you're aware. Check out Coppertop's site; it's got to be the most comprehensive resource out there.
