Is it me or am I going to have to pull the whole dash to replace the speedo cable on my '71? I cannot gain access whatsoever to the cable where it connects to the speedo. And the air ducts being in the way don't help it much either.

BTW it's a sweep dash speedo too.

I think you will have to, unless you can get at it with the dash pad removed. Doubt it tho.

Actually you don't have to take it ALL the way out, just leaned back enough to get at speedo. That way you won't have to disconnect everything. (Altho this would be an excellent time to do anything else in there that needs to be done.) Remove dash pad, Remove steering column cover, Lower steering column and let it rest on seat, one bugger of a bolt directly above steering column, unclip emergency brake, one bolt on each side above fresh air knobs, one on each side where the ends of dash pad were, and 2 more on the main braces in the center of dash. Speaker probably has one or two holding it to dash. Now, with someone sitting in car to hold it, you can lean it back a little to get at speedo.

I took my speedo cable out of my 72 and replaced it without taking the whole dash out, just took off the dash pad. It is not hard at all you just have to know the route the speedo goes and that is it. Just get under the dash, route the cable and clip it to the speedo.

I can't see cuz everything's in the way.

How does the dash pad come off? I'll try that method.

There's about 6 screws that are underneath the lip on top of the dash, where the dash pad and the dash meet, don't forget that there are 2 in the glove box. Then just lift the dash pad gently and pull out, make sure that you still have all the clips on the dashpad.
