I located a center console with shifter out of a 71SS for my 70 Malibu. The only problem is that it is saddle or tan in color and I need black (or green). What is the best paint or dye to use for this.
I am also redoing a Monte Carlo dash by filling in the holes and repainting. Can I use the same paint for both of these jobs? Thanks in advance!

When I repainted my console and seat backs, I used the Interior Lacquer Paint available from Year One. You have to first wash the surface with soap and water and then prep it with their Bonding Agent spray. This "pre-softens" the plastic allowing the top coat to bond. My console and seat backs were originally saddle, and I painted them black. They came out just fine. The lacquer is around 14.00 a can and the bonding spray is around 11 dollars, but they do the job.

70man,
I used a product called SEM. Available at your local auto paint dealer in a sray can for painting rigid plastic, and a separate product for soft vinyl. Results were outstanding. Many colors available and the black is available in varying degrees of gloss. It is highly recommended that you use the SEM prep product as well. Prices around here are about $9.00 a can.

I just finished redoing a saddle console to replace my broken black one. I used the SEM paints "landau black" use the SEM "sand free" prior to painting. Paint the color coat while the sand free is still wet. Turned out beauu-tiful. I also repainted the kick panels , headliner trim, etc...
