I want to put in speakers in the kick panels. I pulled the panels and noticed there is a metal sheet with square holes blocking off a perfect hollow space where the speakers I have would fit. Can I just cut this metal out? Thanks

Hey Tony,
I have been eyeballing a set of the "done" kick pannels with 80 watt speakers in them for some time. Almost all the Chevelle restoration catalogs list them.
If you or someone else buys a set, speak up. Let us know how they are.

The plastic is very brittle, so I ended up breaking one of them (actually my brother  ). From what I've heard from others the speaker quality is sub-par at best. I ended up getting some stock ones and skipping the whole speaker thing altogether. But maybe others have had better experience?
That piece of metal across the box can be cut out with no problems, in fact if the factory AM/FM-stereo tape player option was ordered, that is where the speakers were located. A set of stamped, perforated steel grilles (which I'm still trying to find) finished it off.

Rich Oh your kidding me! That is some cool info!
Was that part# used on other applications?
Does the factory assembly manual show this?
