I just did a conversion, bench to buckets On my 70 Chevelle. I did my own upholstery with the reproduction seat covers. Took my time and installed the bucket seat hold down brackets per instructions. Set the seats in place and both backs look tilted towards the windows. The seats are good and level and they feel good but the backs just don't look right. Is there a left and right to the backs. Perhaps I have them crossed. Can anyone help solve my problem. Thanks, JC

Don't know about -70 Chevelle buckets, but I remember that there was a slight difference between the left and right seat in my -71 Camaro. It made the backs fold slightly to the side (into the car) for easier access to the back seat. Fold the seats and see if they fold straight forward or not. If they don't, you could have them mixed up. You should be able to tell by the way they fold.
On the bench seat in my -69 Chevelle, there's bumpers for the backs. If they are left out, the backs will lean back to far. Did you have anything like that on yours, and did you reinstall them?

Olle's right... it sounds like the backs may be reversed. Look for a release latch on the backs, also, to tell you if they need to be reversed. I do think there is a difference in the seat backs just as there is on the seat bottoms themselves.

Which bucket brakcets did you use? THere are two types available; a single in-board for each seat and a set that has a smaller piece that is for the front corner, outboard. Maybe you need something for the front corner? Just a thought.

Thanks you guys. I did install the rubber bumpers. The release latch is in the center of the plastic back. I used the brackets from Ground Up Part # 1CC-001. These must be the single ones you are talking about DrewC. These are the same ones shown in the install article sent to me by Jon(71Velle); Bucket Seat Installation by James Hinshaw and Mark Meekins. They were doing a conversion to a 70 Elky, buckets and console. Good thorough article by the way. I have a picture of the seats sitting on the floor in my garage and the drivers side really leans to the right. If I knew how to send the pictures them I would.
I probably do have the backs switched. I don't remember seeing any markings on the swivel brackets indicating L or R.
Thanks for your inputs.
