Opinions solicited on:
Auburn (so far NO WAY!)
Powertrax (so far Probable)
Eaton (Did they ever make one for 7.5?)
would be the winner if so, after all they made the factory posi's for LOT's 'o' stuff!
Thanks!!!!!!!

You may be stuck with the Auburn if you want it right now. Eaton will be coming out with one in January 2000 if you can wait that long.

Is there some reason you aren't considering the factory unit? I like the one I have in my 79.

Well 64 ElCamino, that was part of my question!
If there IS an Eaton 7.5 inch Posi, it's a NO-BRAINER!!!!
Still would rather have a Currie or Fab 9 unit. but no bucks for such stuff!!!

Sorry. Didn't know Eaton made the factory units. Mine is out of an 85 Elky. Paid $50 for the whole thing drum to drum.

Eaton did not make a posi for use in the original car. The original posi available from the factory was what is called a gov-lock unit. It is very weak, and is usually replaced with an Auburn. The only trouble with an Auburn is that it is not rebuildable if it wears out, which is quite frequently if it is used for stricktly high perf. If used for normal street driving it will hold up OK. Eaton will be coming out with a rebuildable clutch pack style, rebuildable replacement for either the open diff, or the stock gov-lock unit in January 2000, according to a sales rep from Eaton. I spoke to him at the Car Craft Summer Nationals in Minneapolis earlier in July, and since I work at a driveline shop, I was very interested in what he had to say. My suggestion would be to wait for the Eaton unit, it is by far the best on the market. And for some of you who think the Moroso Brute strength is the best out there, I have news for you: It is made by Eaton and is not available for the 7.5 rear until January 2000.

OK now I'm really confused. I guess it is time to pull the cover off and see what is stamped on the carrier. Philip
