: 70 console install
tree60 Feb 22nd, 02, 2:09 PM Okay I have a slight problem, I am putting a console in my 70 Chevelle, currently has 4spd no console, bought the new transmission hump, new shifter. When I line the console up with the transmission hump I have about a 2-3inch gap from the front of the console to the floor. I thought the front of the console was supposed to be flush to the floor just up to the edge of the dash. Thanks for any help

You also need to install a bracket behind the shifter hump. It will be located between the seats and located under the two screw holes in the bottom of the storage compartment. This will then tip the console forward so that it will fit closer to the floor when the carpet is installed. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/wink.gif

tree60 Feb 23rd, 02, 8:35 AM The floor has the insulation on it. I bought the console kit at OPG so the bracket should be in the kit. It didn't come with any directions. It's almost like the console is for some other car. Is there a difference between auto/manual? Also on the bracket if it lifts up the rearend is there going to be a gap at the back? Thanks for the help guys this in driving me insane.

Terry,
The kit will not come with the bracket. It will assume you are replacing a console. You will need to buy the bracket seperatly. It is welded in from the factory (originally).
National Parts Depot, Part No.#C-10241-102B, $15.95, 1-800-521-6104.
The console kit is the same for 68' thru 72'. The base unit is the same for auto or 4 speed, Only the top plate is different.
You will need to remove the insulation to install the rear bracket. I suppose you could screw it to the floor hump. But originally it was welded in from the factory.
OPG does not sell this bracket as I look at their catalog. I purchased the original kit from OPG a few years ago. It is the same kit you purchased, it will fit just fine. Get the rear bracket.
